Meet the Makers: Fermentation!
Free online talk
Thursday, March 11, 7pm-8pm
Beattie-Powers Place is Catskill's historic home for the arts. With Meet the Makers, we're considering how that mission relates to different types of arts produced in the area. We want to give back to the community, educate about some of the amazing things that are happening locally, and encourage support of our small-scale makers!
For millennia, fermentation has been used to create foods such as alcohol, pickles and sourdough. In recent years, there has been increased interest in fermentation as a way to break away from mass production, enhance taste and improve health. During the pandemic, many have been experimenting with these techniques at home, further swelling the ranks of the ferment-curious.
For this event, we’ll be talking about the fermentation arts, its processes and how small Hudson Valley makers are working with ferments locally, carrying on these ancient traditions. We will have a panel discussion with local experts in the fermentation arts: Sourdough makers See and Be Kitchen, cider makers Left Bank Ciders and Ayurvedic fermented food makers Atina Foods. We will especially be learning about those techniques, but
please send us any fermentation questions for audience Q&A, and we will do our best to respond!
Come Meet the Makers of fermentation for this fun and free online talk on Zoom! Space is limited, so if you have not already, please reserve your spot at firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will email you an access link prior to the event. Can't attend at the scheduled time? No problem! Replay will be provided after the event.
