Completed around 1838, Beattie-Powers Place is a significant example of the Greek Revival, a style identified in the early 19th century with the development of the new American Republic.

In an illustrated talk given by David V. Griffin, we’ll visit other Greek Revival buildings throughout the Hudson River Valley, including the graceful estate Edgewater, now preserved as a museum, and the monumental Dutch Reform Church in Newburgh, in need of restoration. We’ll also be visiting contemporary architects’ new designs that tap into this grandly formal aesthetic and reinvent it for 21st century living.

Attendance is free via a streamed link, and Q&A will be discussed after the talk.
