Completed around 1838, Beattie-Powers Place is a significant example of the Greek Revival, a style identified in the early 19th century with the development of the new American Republic.

​

In an illustrated talk given by David V. Griffin, we’ll visit other Greek Revival buildings throughout the Hudson River Valley, including the graceful estate Edgewater, now preserved as a museum, and the monumental Dutch Reform Church in Newburgh, in need of restoration. We’ll also visit new designs by contemporary architects that tap into this grandly formal aesthetic and reinvent it for 21st century living.

David V. Griffin is a dynamic public speaker and writer who provides services to the real estate community via his consultancy, Landmark Branding. His 15 years of experience in publicity, programming, research & writing is matched by his vast knowledge of real estate, architecture and design.

Griffin’s writing has appeared in Real Estate Weekly, Metropolis, Dwell and the National Trust’s Preservation Magazine, and he is a featured contributor to Brownstoner.  He is currently working on a book about the history of the penthouse an as American architectural type.
